Perfume Care 101

Perfume Care & Storage Guide

Whether this is your first bottle or your fiftieth, a few simple habits make your fragrance project better, last longer, and stay fresh for years. Here is everything you need to know, the way the pros do it.

Where to Apply: Your Pulse Points

Pulse points are the warm spots where blood flows closest to the skin. The gentle heat lifts and diffuses your fragrance all day.

    Inner wrists

The most popular pulse point of all (just never rub!).

A clever spot when you are wearing a skirt or dress.

How to Apply Like a Pro

Six simple steps for the best projection and longevity from every spray.

  1. 1
    Moisturize First

Apply an unscented lotion or a little Vaseline to your pulse points. Fragrance clings far longer to hydrated skin.

  2. 2
    Hold at a Distance

Keep the bottle about 4-6 inches (15 cm) from your skin for a soft, even mist.

  3. 3
    Target Pulse Points

Spray 2-4 times onto your pulse points, where natural body heat helps the scent bloom.

  4. 4
    Never Rub

Do not rub your wrists together. It crushes the delicate top notes and shortens the scent.

  5. 5
    Let It Dry

Let the fragrance settle into your skin on its own. No fanning, no blotting.

  6. 6
    Refresh Lightly

Top up with a light spray midday if you like, but remember a little always goes a long way.

Skin, Clothes & Hair

Each surface wears a fragrance differently. Here is how to get the best from all three.

On Your Skin

The best canvas. Your natural warmth and chemistry make the scent uniquely yours with the truest projection. Aim for clean, moisturized pulse points.

On Your Clothes

Fragrance lasts noticeably longer on fabric. Spray from a distance and test a hidden area first, as oils can mark delicate materials like silk. Avoid leather and pearls.

In Your Hair

Hair holds scent beautifully and trails as you move. Since alcohol can dry strands, mist your brush and run it through, or spray lightly. Never spray directly on the scalp.

Make It Last All Day

  • Apply right after a warm shower, onto clean, slightly damp skin.
  • Layer with a matching or unscented body lotion to anchor the scent.
  • Focus on your pulse points, not the air around you.
  • Store it properly so the fragrance stays fresh for years.
  • Do not over-spray. Your nose adapts to it, but everyone else still notices.

Storing Your Perfume the Right Way

Fragrance has three great enemies. Protect it from all three and it will reward you for years.

Heat

Warmth breaks down fragrance oils and changes the scent. Keep it away from radiators, windows, and steamy bathrooms.

Light

Direct sunlight and UV fade and spoil a fragrance. Store it in the dark, ideally inside its original box.

Air

Too much air slowly oxidises the juice. Keep the cap sealed tight and never leave the sprayer exposed.

Do

  • Keep it in a cool, dark, dry place (ideally 15-20°C).
  • Store the bottle upright in its original box.
  • Keep the cap sealed on tightly after every use.
  • A drawer, wardrobe, or closet shelf is ideal.

Don't

  • Do not keep it in the bathroom (heat and humidity ruin it).
  • Do not leave it on a sunny windowsill or in the car.
  • Do not shake the bottle.
  • Do not expose it to big temperature swings.

Understanding Your Fragrance

A great perfume unfolds in three layers over time. This is why your scent smells different an hour after you spray it.

Top NotesFirst 15 minutes
Heart Notes15 minutes to 2 hours
Base Notes2+ hours
  • Top Notes (First 15 minutes)

The bright, fresh first impression that greets you the moment you spray.

  • Heart Notes (15 minutes to 2 hours)

The true character of the fragrance as it warms and settles on your skin.

  • Base Notes (2+ hours)

The deep, rich trail that stays with you and lingers for hours.

A few gentle reminders

Do a small patch test if your skin is sensitive, keep fragrance away from your eyes and broken skin, and spray in a ventilated space. Perfume is alcohol-based, so keep it away from open flames and out of the reach of children.
